Passenger name record (PNR) is seen as a record of all databases in Indian railways system. The Indian railway's computer reservation system (IR-CRS) is a list of all journey information of all passengers that are saved. Passenger names are stored in a centralized database that helps keep track all passengers that have booked a ticket with the Indian railway. The PNR status is associated with a very simple and unique ten-digit pin on the PNR ticket used in monitoring train running status in Indian railways.
This PNR status is a very important feature that keeps track and acts as a security and use to trace the passengers. This PNR database contains some vital information directly inputted into the computer reservation system. This information includes name, gender, age, next of kin etc.
Train service has a number of seats and requires proper reservation and booking in order to keep a space. Without a confirmed reserved ticket the bookings become invalid. An invalid ticket may later turn from a wait list (W/L) status when space is made due to cancellation by an already booked customer or a seat formerly reserved for a customer becomes available.
